金沢城にて
城の石垣を築く技術は、
戦国時代～江戸時代初期に大きく進展しました。
修理を重ねることで、技術さらに向上。
現代のコンクリートの剛構造と異なり、
変形しやすく壊れにくい「柔軟性」で、
城を訪れる者を圧倒する構造物を
約400年も保っている。
強さの秘訣は見えない内部にある。
「石垣の強さの秘密は、
表面の石（築石）、
裏込め（ 栗石ぐりいし ）、
背面地盤（土層）が組み合わさった
複合構造にある。」
築石、栗石、土層は、
「１＋１＋１が３以上」になり、
互いに補完して安定性を保持している。
表面の築石は、
奥行きが長くやや先細りなのが特徴。
これにより、自重と築石間の摩擦抵抗で
斜面の崩壊を防いでいる。

The technology for building castle stone walls made great progress from the Warring States Period to the early Edo Period.
Through repeated repairs, the technology has been further improved. Unlike the rigid concrete structures of today, the "flexibility" of the castle, which is easily deformable and difficult to break, has kept the structure overwhelming to visitors for approximately 400 years.
